The Relaxation Response
Using the Breath to Calm Anxiety
Sat. 09Apr 2022 - Part 1 / Sat. 23Apr 2022 - Part 2
1pm-4pm ET for both parts
Co-led by Juliana Mitchell & Markay
Your breath can be a powerful support-tool for self-soothing. And once we’ve cultivated a relationship with the breath, we have a life-changing and incredible asset that’s free and always there for you.
But how do we build that connection with our breath? How do we deepen that connection? And how do we hold space for our students, clients or loved ones to access their breath support too?
And, what is the science behind it?
Join Juliana & Markay for a deep-dive into one of the greatest investments you can ever make: your relationship with your breath. With a combo of lecture & experiential exercises, we’ll connect with our breathing and our innate ability to use the simple inhale and the simple exhale to calm anxiety.
Who is this workshop for?
It is for anyone who’s breathing…. and wants to better understand the interface between breath and nervous system.

Your Instructors
Juliana (she/her/hers) is a full time yoga teacher and yoga therapist, living in NYC. She's devoted to the dynamic grace of movement, the healing oasis of stillness and the powerful beauty of awareness and compassion. Her teaching style is precise and playful, emphasizing the journey toward artfully inhabiting our bodies and our lives.
She began studying the breath as a vehicle for healing and for self-expression in her late teens. Three decades later, she remains a committed student of the breath’s capacity to uplift, ground & transform.
Juliana loves sharing breath technique - which lives at the interface of science and magic - with interested others. Come as you are and you will be welcomed as you are.
Markay is a respectful, welcoming and encouraging teacher that has studied the body and taught movement for more than 15yrs. She incorporates breath, alignment and trauma informed cues into her classes ensuring the safety and comfort for her students while guiding them to listen to their body's unique needs.
Markay's favorite breath technique is the Kirtan Kriya as it combines a soothing and self directed breath cadence with a mudra and mantra of one's choosing. She finds that the Kriya grounds and centers her while helping her to find calmness. She has co-authored a manual on using breath techniques to support the prevention and recovery of COVID-19.
The Physiology of Breath Work
Wed 22Sept from 7-8:30p ET / 4-5:30p PT
The Power of the Inhale, the Exhale & Breath Holds. A discussion about the power of the inhale, the exhale and intentional breath holds. How can the breath impact the body - the bi-directional impact of the breath and nervous system. How we can leverage the breath to self soothe?
Let's explore these topics via educational chatter and an experiential practice.
Breath techniques explored will be equal inhale/equal inhale (sama vritti) and box breath.
